  • I attended Grooming Tails last year and did the cannine grooming course. For me it has proved to be life changing. I am how can I say, mature and i felt i wanted a change of direction. I have a passion for dogs and decided it was time to combine this with a career. I searched the internet and gathered information on several grooming courses. I visited three course venues in the north west. the fact that grooming tails was" one on one" training was my main deciding factor. On visiting Grooming Tails I felt completely at ease with the atmosphere and felt that this was the environment in which i would benefit most and i certainly wasn't disappointed. I now have my own business doing something i love. I have only one regret that i didnt do it sooner. I would like to finish by thanking Michelle and Ian for giving me help and encouragement in persuing a lucrative and worthwhile career.

  • My course with Grooming Tails taught by Michelle Mchugh has been excellent. It was professional in every way possible. Best being that everything is very hands on learning quickly from word go! Instructions are clear and easy to understand on all aspects from Grooming to running a salon... I would highly recommend The course to anyone wishing to start Dog Grooming I felt confident after a week or so to do most common breeds after time michelle just stands back and is there in an instant to assist you, answer questions and help you in any situation. Its great because she will not do it for you but show you once or twice then you will be doing it on your own. The skills obtained will enable you to either set up your own dog grooming salon. You will learn all the different styles for popular breeds as well as unusual breeds. We have small to giant breeds including St Bernards & Newfoundlands, Bichons, Poodles, Cavaliers, Westies, Shih Tzus. You will train on 2 dogs a day until you increase your speed. By the 4th week you will running the grooming salon this will enable you to open up your own salon as soon as you leave here. We are always on the end of the phone if you need further help. Suitable for: Individuals looking to establish their own business or who are seeking a profession within the dog grooming industry. This is a rewarding career for those who love animals, no matter what career you are in if you are looking for a change in career and love animals then this is for you.

What I would highlight: I am very pleased with the course. It has enabled me to open up my own salon and retrain my mum. The staff and animals are very friendly to be around. Its a nice atmosphere.

What I would highlight: I Travelled from Fuerteventura to do this course and feel it was well worth it! Michelle gave excellent training, i never felt rushed and was allowed to take my time while i was learning. Any aspect of the grooming i felt i was struggling with Michelle gave me extra advise and practice with it . Michelle and her staff make you feel very at home and comfortable and give excellent tips on buying your equiptment and setting up your own business. If your wanting to do a Dog Grooming course do it with Grooming Tails, i am now about to open my own groomers in the Canary islands thanks to the training and confidence they have given me.

What I would highlight: I really enjoyed the course, eveyone made me very welcome. Michelle is an exelllent teacher an give me extra support and help when i needed it, Ian really helped me with the buisness side. I am about to start my own business and could not of done it with out Michelle and Ians help and support. This is an exellent course for people looking to start there own busness, I would highly recommend it.

What I would highlight: Michelle is not only an experienced groomer, her enthusiasm towards her trainees and staff is a real advantage and this has encouraged me significantly. Michelle was also very understanding when nerves set in and encouragement was needed. I have been offered excellent advice. I travelled a very long way to attend this course and every minute away from home was worth it. Thank you for giving me the skills to feel confident to setup my own salon and be a confident, proficient “Canine Beautician” Thanks. Sue

What I would highlight: Thanks to Michelle and her partner Ian for all their help and support during my 6 weeks training with them at their Salon in St Helens. From day one the training is very hands on and 6 weeks later I am ready to go with my mobile dog grooming business. In addition, help is given with business plans, building websites etc which is an added bonus and overall the course is very good value for money and has been extremely enjoyable to do.

I have been grooming now for 6 years, with over 1500 satisfied customers. Prior to opening GroomingTails I worked in the finance sector 15 years. I have 4 beautiful dogs, 2 St Bernards, 1 Newfoundland and a Bichon Frise, rabbit. I have a variety of dogs who visit the salon from your most popular breeds of Westies, Shih Tzus, Cavaliers, Poodles, Bichons, XBreeds to the unusal ones like the Bouvier De Flanders, Newfoundlands etc

Course programme

Course review:

GroomingTails is now taking bookings for our intensive one on one Canine Beautician Training Courses. The course will be held over 30 working days with hands on experience both in practical and theory.

You will learn styling and triming of many popular breeds, with all aspects of professional grooming criteria and marketing, the course is aimed at individuals looking to establish there own business or who are seeking a profession within the dog grooming industry. Once enrolled you will receive a file with all breeds with correct clipper size and scissoring methods. You will also have access to dvd´s, books and the internet to use for research.

Weeks 1 - 4 you will be taught how to wash dry clip and scissor all types of breeds.

Weeks 5 - 6 you will be running the grooming salon with help from myself if needed. Here you will speak to the customers to decide on what cut is required.

Once you have left Groomingtails you will feel confident to start from day one. We are always on the end of the phone if you require any help or if you feel you require more training on a particular breeds then you are always welcome at any time to come back free of charge.

For those of you that live further a field we can now provide accomodation directly above the Grooming Acadamey with its own front door.

The accomodation has recently undergone a full makeover and has its own shower facilities and kitchen area.

Payment options:

Deposit of £195.00 by cheque payment followed by the remaining balance 14 days prior to commencement. Once enrolled you will receive a file with all breeds with correct clipper size and scissoring methods. You will also have access to dvd´s, books and the internet to use for research.
