Guitar - Blues, Country and Jazz


Who is this course for?
This course is designed for anyone who wishes to learn about the basic elements of guitar playing in the Blues, Country and Jazz Genres.

What previous knowledge/experience are required?
No prior experience is required.

What is the level of the course?
This is a Level 1 (beginners to intermediate course)

What will the course cover and what can I expect to do by the end of it?
Beginners will have an introduction to basic chords, strumming techniques and riffs while intermediate players will learn new types of chords, chord sequences and scales for soloing. All players will be introduced to the overall musical framework in which chords and chord sequences fit and gain an understanding of where chords come from and why they are as they are. Other areas of study will include the harmonised scale, modes, songs, good practise technique, playing together in time.

What teaching and learning methods will be used on the course?
Group performances, individual practice, demonstrations and listening.

How will we assess your progress on the course?
There will be continuous assessment by the tutor.

What type of qualification will passing this course give me?
This course leads to a Working Men's College Certificate.

What extra study/practice do we expect you to do outside the class?
At least 4hrs per week

What can I do after completing this course?
Students can progress to Learning to Play the Blues classes

Are there any other costs? (e.g. materials, equipment or books I need to buy before or during the course)
You will need to bring a six string guitar. You will need a notebook, pen, pencil and eraser.

Are there any other requirements?
You are required to attend every lesson on time.
