Course programme

However Security Guard licence holders cannot work in regulated entertainment venues or in premises that sell alcohol. For that you need to attend a Door Supervisor course. Under the Private Security Industry Authority Act 2001, all individuals wishing to work in the private security industry must undertake a recognised qualification before applying for a licence.

The HABC Level 2 Award in Security Guarding has been developed to meet the requirements of the Security Industry Authority (SIA). It is based on the relevant SIA Specifications for Learning and Qualifications and provides the learner with the necessary knowledge and understanding for those who wish to apply for an SIA licence and work as a security guard within the private security industry.

The qualification comprises 3 mandatory units:

Unit 1 - Working in the Private Security Industry
This unit is assessed by a 25 question multiple-choice examination the duration of which is 40 minutes. To be successful, learners must achieve a score of at least 18 out of 25. Unit 2 - Working as a Security Officer This unit is assessed by a 40 question multiple-choice examination the duration of which is one hour. To be successful, learners must achieve a score of at least 28 out of 40. Unit 3 - Conflict Management for the Private Security Industry This unit is assessed by a 25 question multiple-choice examination the duration of which is 40 minutes. To be successful, learners must achieve a score of at least 18 out of 25. This qualification can enable the learner to progress onto the NVQ in Providing Security Services or undertake further learning in other areas of the private security industry such as CCTV Operations or Door Supervision. Entry Requirements No specific prior qualifications, learning or experience is required to undertake this course. However, basic literacy and numeracy skills are essential for learning and assessment.
