Do you have a passion for hairdressing? Fascinated by fashion and the latest styling trends? If you're looking for a job that allows you to be creative, work flexibly and meet a range of different people every day, our Hairdressing apprenticeship could be the perfect fit for you.

Available over two levels, this apprenticeship enables you to learn while you work and provides the perfect foundation for many career avenues within the hairdressing profession, including hair stylist, colour technician, working as a stylist on a cruise ship or holiday resort, mobile stylist, or even running your own salon. On both levels, you will also develop your essential functional skills in English and maths to help you in your future career.

If you're just starting out in the industry, our NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Hairdressing will teach you the principal elements of hairdressing. You will likely play a role here as a salon junior, and your duties could include cutting and styling, shampooing and conditioning, preparing and applying colours, as well as booking appointments and assisting with salon maintenance.

If you want to advance your skills further, our NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Hairdressing will enable you to develop innovative cutting and styling techniques, creative colouring and lightening, as well as enhancing your ability to market products and services.

Teaching and assessment

Throughout your training your tutor will guide you through assessments both in the workplace and at college. You will have practical assessments, online tests and assignments.

Your personal assessor will visit you regularly in the workplace (or are happy to see you more often if you need extra help). They will assist you throughout your training to help you achieve your qualification. You may need to attend college to gain additional skills but this will be discussed with you and your employer.

Our teaching and assessment is underpinned by our Teaching, Learning and Assessment Strategy 2015-2020.
