Hairdressing CG NVQ and Beauty Level 1

Who is this course for? For those people who wish to pursue careers within the Hairdressing and related industries. Students undertaking these programmes will find them challenging, rewarding and a most effective preparation for employment. If you wish to return to work or have recently left school this could be the programme for you. Applications from mature candidates are particularly welcomed. Previous knowledge required: Prospective candidates must; be at least 16 years of age; have an interest in working with the general public and a commitment to succeed within this vocational area and be successful at college interview.

What will I study? The NVQ Level 1 training programme includes the following units: Shampooing and Conditioning, Drying and Finishing Hair Styles, Assisting the Stylist to Perm and Colour and Hair Reception skills. You will also study for a VRQ Level 2 Beauty Certificate in Make-up or Manicure. Additional qualification include Key Skills and the Personal Effectiveness Programme.

What else will I do? You will be working commercially in well-equipped salons on members of the public. You will work with real clients on a regular basis throughout your training. Salon management skills are realistically taught alongside formal training in practical skills. You will also have the opportunity to attend additional seminars and workshops.

How will I be assessed? Assessments are carried out while you are working in the realistic salon environment, you will also have assignments and externally set exams.

What will I achieve? NVQ level 1 Hairdressing, VRQ Level 2 Beauty Certificate in Make-Up or Manicure; Peronal Effectiveness Programme; Key skills Application of Number, Communication and Information Technology.

What can I do afterwards? Progress to NVQ level 2 Hairdressing or redirect on to therapy programmes. Work in the industry assisting qualified hairdressers.

Materials required: You will be required to purchase hairdressing kit and uniform, price on application.

Additional information about this course: Attendance is required one evening per week in college salon as part of the course.
