• Selection is by interview. • 2 GCSEs grade C or above is required in English and science, maths would be an advantage. • All applicants will be required to pass an initial diagnostic test. Course Content • Working in the hair industry • Health and safety • Client consultation • Shampoo and condition hair and scalp • Promote products and services to clients • Cut women’s hair • Colour and lighten hair • Perm and neutralise hair • The art of dressing hair • Salon reception duties • Create an image based on a theme within the hair and beauty sector. How will I be assessed? You will cover the theoretical and practical work necessary for each unit; this will be tested through online testing with the awarding body and practical assessment. Assessment is continuous throughout the year and will take place within a realistic working environment and assignments. Progression On completion of this course you could gain employment in a salon at junior stylist level or progress to an Advanced Apprenticeship programme. Progression to the Level 3 course is recommended to advance your skills and widen your career opportunities. Fees • If you are aged 16–18 as of 31 August on the year of enrolment – no course fee. • If you are over 19 as of 31 August and enrolling on a full-time programme of study a tuition fee will be applicable in most cases.
