About this course

Students aged 16 to 18 will need 23-27 GCSE points. Students aged 19+ will be offered a place on this course subject to a successful interview, evidence of previous academic study and have a professional appearance.

Introduction:
This NVQ not only provides essential skills for employment in the hairdressing industry, but also offers students the opportunity to enter national competitions, and gain additional specialist certificates. In the past, students have additionally had the opportunity visit trade shows and specialist exhibitions.

Study Mode & Location:
This one year course will be held at Preston College, Fulwood Campus, St Vincent`s Road, Preston, PR2 8UR.

Course Content:
Areas of study will include:
  • Shampooing & Conditioning of Hair (Team Work).
  • Assist with Perming & Colouring Services.
  • Prepare for Hairdressing Services. Assist with Reception Duties.
  • Health & Safety.


Assessment:
Your work will be assessed during practical salon sessions by an assessor who may ask you questions to support your practical skills. (Please note that you will be required to provide some clients for practical assessments). Some parts of your work (assignments) will be assessed throughout the course, whilst others will be assessed through written papers. There will also be two written assignments

Careers & Progression Opportunities:
Successful completion of this course together with a successful interview and review, will allow you to progress to the NVQ Level 2 in Hairdressing.

Additional Costs:
There will be a cost involved for this course (which will be substantially reduced if you are on income-based benefits). You will also need the following equipment /materials.(Please note - costs are approximate and will be confirmed at induction).

  • Tunic £20
  • Stationery £10


How To Apply
You will need to have an informal interview with an Adult Admissions Adviser.
Many courses have limited places so please enquire as soon as possible. Following interview, the earliest you may enrol is mid-June.

Depending upon your circumstances, you may be able to study at a reduced price.
