About this course

Over the 18 months of your apprenticeship you will not only gain the experience of working in a salon you will also obtain a recognised NVQ level 2 qualification enableing you to progress onto level 3 or gain a position as a stylist in your chosen salon.

This course is designed for beginners looking to step into the world of hairdressing. No previous experience is necessary, a salon placement is required to obtain your apprenticeship.

This NVQ Diploma course is designed to qualify students in the art of hairdressing whilst working in a salon four days per week therefore gaining Academy education alongside in salon training. Please be aware this is a government Funded Work Based Learning Apprenticeship.

You will attend the Queen Academy of Excellence on one day per week alongside four days in your salon

Enrolment requires either a previous level 1 certificate or an interview with our Academy. English and maths are an advantage but not necessary as you will be able to complete your functional skills throughout the course

Course programme

This course is specifically designed to provide students with an intensive work /study apprenticeship in which they will learn the necessary practical and theoretical skills to work in a salon.

This course is taught by qualified educators who incorporate theory work, special projects, demonstrations and hands-on workshops. Your tutor will guide you through the stages of the course and monitor your personal progress. All work books and fact sheets are provided as well. You can purchase your equipment yourself or you can take a college kit

Throughout the course you will have your own clients to enable you to build a portfolio of all your work, consisting of photographic evidence and practical assignments.

You will be assessed in both theory and practical areas throughout this course.

You will practice on members of the public throughout this course.

Students are required to bring in a camera to take photos during this course as part of their portfolio of evidence for assessment purposes.

Our courses have a maximum of 7 students per class
