Course Content
This qualification is aimed at developing candidates to become junior hairdressing salon stylists and covers basic hairdressing techniques.It is the second level of qualification within the hairdressing framework, leading to other qualifications at level 2 and 3.
Course Features
The course is full time consisting of two days and one evening in college, with work experience as an additional day.
A one day a week work experience is an integral part of the programme, which all students must follow, creating opportunities for future employment.
Extra curriculum activities include fashion shows, competitions and industrial events.
A hairdressing kit and uniform are a compulsory requirement for the course, candidates progressing from level 1 need to ensure all kit is updated. Approx price of kit is #250
This course is also part of the Hairdressing NVQ Level 2 Welsh Baccalaureate intermediate route.
On completion of the course successful candidates will have a follow up interview and skills test to establish suitability for the hairdressing NVQ level 3 programme.
A realistic working salon builds candidates confidence, experience and awareness of the industrial salon environment.
Career Prospects and Progression
This qualification is the minimum requirement for the qualified hair stylist. Level 2 is an essential requirement for progressing onto Hairdressing Level 3.

This is a 9 unit qualification: G1 - Health and Safety G5 - Give clients a positive impression of yourself and your organisation G6 - Promote additional products or services to clients G7 - Advise and consult with clients H6 - Cut hair using basic techniques H9 - Shampoo and condition hair and scalp H10 - Style, Dress and finish hair using basic techniques H12 - Perm and Neutralise hair using basic techniques H13 - Change hair colour using basic techniques
Method of Assessment
Continual practical observation on real paying clients throughout the programme. Written tests for each unit and 3 assignments to ensure essential knowledge and understanding.
