The Handyman Skills course is designed to meet your requirements in the basics skills in a four week combination of Bricklaying, Plastering, Wall and Floor Tiling, Plumbing or Kitchen Fitting or First and Second Fit Carpentry. Other subjects can be added if required. Suitable for: Anyone requiring basic DIY skills in all building skills areas. The renage of courses can be tailored to meet your requirements. It is possible to mix and match from all of the courses to meet your needs.

Course programme

Handyman Multi-Skills Course

This is a minimum of four x one week courses, but they can be spread over a six month period to meet your family and work commitments.

Includes one week Plastering , one week Wall & Floor Tiling, one week Basic Plumbing and One week Bricklaying as the Prime courses.

For people with no experience or skills of bricklaying and wishing to undertake minor bricklaying projects. Course includes starting at foundations, brick wall and cavity, garden wall, steps, arches and door frame.

  • Plastering - one week
  • The Handy Skills courses covers cutting and fixing plasterboards, back coat finishing, fixing stop, drip and angle beads. Repair to damaged ceiling and wall plaster.
  • Plumbing - one week
  • This is a basic practical course working with copper, bending and soldering, use of plastic piping and compression joints. Pipework in fitting a kitchen sink, wash hand basin and bath and the removal and repalcement of a radiator. Basic theory of domestic water system and heating systems.
  • Wall and Floor Tiling
  • Provides hands on knowledge on wall and floor tiling covering how to measure walls and floors set out and design layouts and provide a quote. Practical work includes tiling around basins, toilets and baths. Time is allocated to planning designs on walls and floors.
  • Additional cost will be incurred if Kitchen fitting is required. Please contact BSA on 01635 522007 for further information.
  • Carpentry - First and Second fix is an alternative to one of the prime courses
  • First and second fix carpentry can be a useful skill to have. The course covers use and management of tools, building stud walls door lining and fitting of door and door furniture. Cutting and fitting of skirting boards and architraves.
