About this course

A total of 18 months recent care work experience. NVQ Level 2 Health & Social Care or an equivalent form of recent study. An informal interview with the NVQ Care Team. Undergo a standard CRB check.

Introduction:
This course provides the opportunity to develop practical skills and knowledge at a supervisory level. This includes updating existing knowledge and skills and developing new ones. The NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care is a highly practical-based and nationally recogised qualification much sought after by employers.

Study Mode & Location:
This one year Part-Time+ course can be held at Preston College, Fulwood Campus, St Vincent`s Road, Preston, PR2 8UR.

This course is also available to be studied at an employers workplace. Contact the advice centre for further details.

Course Content:
Mandatory units include:

  • Legal and organisational requirements for care work.
  • Building relationships and promotion communication strategies.
  • The promotion of rights, choices, equality, diversity, confidentiality and protection of vulnerable adults.
  • Professional development and reflective practice.


Optional units (depending on experience and job role):

  • Administration of medications.
  • Undertaking physiological measurements (BP, Pulse).
  • Obtaining venus blood samples.
  • Undertaking gastric tube feeding.
  • Therapeutic group activities.
  • Manual handling.
  • Risk assessments.


Assessment:
There is no examination. Evidence of competent performance and development of knowledge and skills is assessed by the production of a portfolio. Guidance, support and observation of performance will be provided throughout to achieve this. Other evidence generated may include assignments, case studies, projects, written observation questions, witness testimonies and self-reflected accounts.

Careers & Progression Opportunities:
Successful completion of this course will enable students to progress into nurse training, NVQ Level 4 Health & Social Care; become registered managers or NVQ Care Assessors or to employment as a Senior Care postholder in a residential home.

You will need to complete a Further Education Application Form. These will be available from mid-May.
Many courses have limited places so please return your application form as soon as possible. Following acceptance of your application, the earliest you may enrol is mid-June.
