Healthy and Safety Risk Assessment of a Workplace

This two day course has been designed to introduce individuals to the knowledge base required to undertake risk assessments in a Radio, Television or Film environment. Individuals are updated on the essentials of

  • Health and Safety Law,
  • Legal requirements and obligations.

Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment procedures are introduced with practical relevant examples in the relevant areas.

Supporting Material

There is ample support material, including HSE originated material and template documents covering such areas as Hazard Identification and a template Risk Assessment Form which encompasses the legal requirements and the additional requirements of the NVQ unit.

The course also draws on support material and other examples of good practice in Risk Assessment with practical examples and scenarios. Knowledge is tested routinely as part of the ongoing process.

Risk Assessments

As part of the course, candidates will submit examples of Risk Assessments they have undertaken on current or recent productions, and possibly items they are about to undertake.

With a bit of homework, it’s possible to complete all the work required for the NVQ, ready for formal assessment during the two days. Less experienced candidates may progress the NVQ at a pace which fits their learning and experience.

There is provision for remote assessment of this NVQ unit.

BBC Production Safety CD-ROM

This option is still available as a route for individuals wishing to compete the NVQ via the former Cyfle route.

David Ellis Jones is the course assessor.
