Health and Social Care (Adults) QCF Course Our Health and Social Care Level 3 Diploma course is the full level 3 qualification listed on the QCF (QRN: 501/2263/0). Upon successful completion you will be awarded 58 credits. The QCF Diploma in Health and Social Care Level 3 is a nationally recognised qualification based on the Health and Social Care National Occupation Standards approved by Skills for Care & Development. It is recognised by care providers, the Care Quality Commission (CQC), and nursing universities. The award will confirm knowledge, skills and competence for those working with adults and children across all social care settings, including residential settings, primary care environments, domiciliary services, day services and supported living. This qualification is ideal if you are working as an experienced care worker in health and social care or you are volunteering in a similar setting. Syllabus

Unit 1: R/601/1436 Principles for implementing duty of care in health, social care or children’s and young people’s settings

The unit introduces ways to address the dilemmas, conflicts or complaints that may arise where there is a duty of care.

The learning outcomes for this unit are:

  • Understand how duty of care contributes to safe practice
  • Know how to address conflicts or dilemmas that may arise between an individual’s rights and the duty of care
  • Know how to respond to complaints

Unit 2: A/601/8574 Principles of safeguarding and protection in health and social care

This unit introduces the important area of safeguarding individuals from abuse. It identifies different types of abuse and the signs and symptoms that might indicate abuse is occurring. It considers when individuals might be particularly vulnerable to abuse and what a learner must do if abuse is suspected or alleged.

The learning outcomes for this unit are:

  • Know how to recognise signs of abuse
  • Know how to respond to suspected or alleged abuse
  • Understand the national and local context of safeguarding and protection from abuse

Unit 3: M/601/3467 Understand sensory loss

This unit provides the learner with the knowledge and skills required to appropriately support individuals with sensory loss.

The learning outcomes for this unit are:

  • Understand the factors that impact on an individual with sensory loss
  • Understand the importance of effective communication for individuals with sensory loss
  • Understand the main causes and conditions of sensory loss
  • Know how to recognise when an individual may be experiencing sight and / or hearing loss and actions that may be taken

Unit 4: J/601/3538 Understand the process and experience of dementia

This unit covers the knowledge and skills needed to understand dementia and its impact on an individual, as well as to facilitate person-centred care for individuals with dementia.

The learning outcomes for this unit are:

  • Understand the neurology of dementia
  • Understand the impact of recognition and diagnosis of dementia
  • Understand how dementia care must be underpinned by a person centred approach

Unit 5: J/601/1434 Promote communication in health, social care or children's and young people's settings

The unit explores the central importance of communication in such settings, and ways to meet individual needs and preferences in communication. It also considers issues of confidentiality.

Unit 16: T/601/8282 Support individuals with specific communication needs

This unit provides the learner with the knowledge and skills that address personal interaction and the use of special methods and aids to promote communication.

  • Understand specific communication needs and factors affecting them
  • Be able to contribute to establishing the nature of specific communication needs of individuals and ways to address them
  • Be able to interact with individuals using their preferred communication

Study Hours

This is only an approximate figure and is dependant upon how much time you can dedicate to your studies and how well you grasp the learning concepts in the course material. Furthermore, at the end of each lesson there is a question paper that needs to be completed and returned to your tutor. You should allow at least 1 - 2 hours of study to complete each question paper.
