About the Course
Year 1. Six AS level units Promoting quality care examines how professionals work to ensure all service users are treated with equal respect and care. Communication in care settings gives you the opportunity to investigate different types of communication skills used when working with different service users. Promoting good health supports your research on how best to promote people†s health and wellbeing.
Year 2.The six A2 units scheduled are: Care practice and provision investigates how care professionals work together to assess and meet the needs of their service users. Understanding human behaviour gives you an insight into influences affecting our growth and development, and the concepts and theories that can be used to explain our behaviour across different stages of life. Child development enables you to look at children†s development from birth to eight years, and considers the influences that can affect this.
Anatomy and physiology in practice helps you understand the gross structure, basic microanatomy and functions of several human body systems along with diagnostic techniques and treatments. Mental health issues explores the concepts, types, causes and images of mental health and how its needs are supported by a range of professionals. Research methods in health and social care lets you select a topic, carry out a small-scale research project and
produce a report of your findings.
Course Aims

You will have the opportunity to undertake a two-week work experience placement at the end of year one, to support your A2 level studies and your application to university, training or employment.It can be combined with one or more other A levels. Working in early years care and education helps you learn about services and jobs that support young children and their carers. Caring for older
people examines changes affecting us as we age and how services can help older people to maintain independence. Health as a lifestyle choice shows you how choices made about lifestyle affect our health and wellbeing.

How is the course assessed?
Assessment will be through a combination of portfolio assessment and tests. There are more assignments than tests.

No Course Fees for Under 19's. Over 19's must pay, or claim Level 2 or Level 3 Entitlement for FREE courses .
What next?
You may apply to study for a degree in social work, nursing or related higher education courses. Alternatively, you may seek employment in the care field.
