What qualifications do I need?

This qualification is suitable for those in full-time employment in a Health and Social Care setting, with some responsibility which involves working sometimes without supervision, who are either progressing from a Level 2 Apprenticeship, or someone in a more senior position who requires little or no formal learning. There are no formal entry requirements; you will need good interpersonal skills, respect for your clients, a suitable level of physical fitness and motivation to succeed. You will need to undertake a DBS (formerly CRB) check, have a successful interview and must be able to supply a suitable reference.

What’s involved?

Units studied will include communication, equality and inclusion and the role of the health and social care worker. You will have hands on experience through your work setting where your practical ability will be assessed. You will also study a Level 3 Certificate in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care plus Functional Skills in Maths and English at Level 2.

How will I be studying?

You will attend College for day release or short workshops and be working at your place of employment for the remainder of the week.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed in a number of ways, eg direct observation, reflective diary, oral questions and answers, case studies, portfolio of evidence, expert witness evidence, tasks set by the awarding body or assessment method devised by the awarding body, recognition of Prior Learning. The majority of assessment will be carried out in your normal place of work.

Where can I move on to after this course?

Successful completion of the Apprenticeship will give you with the opportunity for progression to Higher Education, eg HND, Nursing Degree, or into a variety of job roles such as working in an acute health environments.
