College interview, Essential Skills Screening and a satisfactory school report or references. Applicants over 19 may be accepted without these qualifications but will still be required to produce a satisfactory reference.

Course programme


Course Overview
This is a one-year, full time, nationally recognised level 1 course that introduces you to the world of working within Health and Social Care.

Course Structure
The course consists of 8 mandatory and specialist units that you will study. These cover many aspects of care, from birth to death.

You will also complete Essential Skills (Lit /Num /IT) and a First Aid course.

Qualification Aims
With successful completion of this course you could apply to complete the BTEC First Diploma in Health and Social Care.

Otherwise you could enter employment within Health and Social Care as an assistant. For progression to the First Diploma, you will be required to achieve an overall distinction at Level 1.

Assessments/Examinations
All of the Units have an Assignment that must be completed to at least a Pass Level for successful completion of the course. Two of the units are also Externally Assessed.

Cost / Equipment
Tuition is free, to those under 19 years of age, but there are additional costs.

£35.00 contribution towards course materials plus text books that you wish to purchase

For students who are 19 or over, the tuition fees will be in the region of£495 per year.

Free tuition is available to those in receipt of certain means tested benefits or to their un-waged dependants. If you are not on benefits but find it difficult to pay any course related costs because of financial hardship.
