What are the main features of this course?
This one year course is made up of 8 units: starting work in Health and Social Care, Working in Health and Social Care, Personal Care Needs, Personal Effectiveness and Social Responsibilities, Looking after Children, Images of People and Mapping Local Services. The course gives a broad understanding of Health and Social Care as well as the opportunity to apply learning in a practical and realistic way. A block of work experience is integrated into the programme to develop appropriate skills and experiences. Communication and Numeracy are developed throughout the programme.

How is the course assessed?
The course is assessed through the completion of assignments. There is one assignment per unit, two of which are assessed externally and six are assessed by college tutors. Each unit is given an individual grade of pass, merit or distinction.

Where can I go next?
On successful completion of the BTEC Introductory Diploma in Health & Social Care course and with two merit grades from the 60 hour units, progression is possible to the BTEC First Diploma in Childrens Care Learning and Development, BTEC First Diploma in Health and Social Care or some type of training or employment.
