Health and Social Care (CYP) NVQ Level 4
Delegates are required to demonstrate achieved competencies in accordance with these national standards. The award is validated by EDEXCEL it will be achieved by gathering a range of evidence together with observation of current work practices. Delegates will be assisted to assemble a Portfolio of documentary evidence to support a claim that they perform their duties and responsibilities in a competent manner. Assessment is based on what they know and can do. Delegates will be asked to show that they are competent by providing evidence that they:
· Can perform identified tasks consistently to the required standard.
· Have appropriate knowledge, and understand why they are doing things.
· Can apply the skills in a range of different situations.
To achieve the NVQ qualification delegates must demonstrate competence in eight units.
HSC41 Use and develop methods and systems to communicate, record and report
HSC42 Contribute to the development and maintenance of healthy and safe practices in the working
environment
HSC43 Take responsibility for the continuing professional development of self and others
HSC44 Develop practice which promotes the involvement, well-being and protection of children and
young people
HSC46 Independently represent and advocate with, and on behalf of, children and young people
HSC47 Help parents and carers to acquire and use skills to protect and take care of children and young people
HSC48 Demonstrate a style of leadership that ensures an organisational culture of open and
participatory management & practice
HSC49 Develop and maintain an environment which safeguards and protects children and young
people
After each delegate has been inducted, a group of appropriate delegates will attend 8 full-day workshops – typically one per month. In between each session delegates will have access to unlimited support and guidance via telephone, facsimile and e-mail, and will be encouraged to network with their colleagues.
In addition to this delegates will be expected to allocate themselves approximately 3 hours per week at their place of employment, to work on their portfolio of evidence.
