The Health and Social Care Intermediate Apprenticeship programme is suitable for anyone working or wishing to work in a care support role within a health or social care setting. You will undertake a level 2 (or if in the appropriate job role level 3) Diploma in Health and Social Care.



Who is the course for?

The course is aimed at learners aged 16 or over who wish to gain employment within the Health and Social Care sector to include, carer or support worker. Completion of this qualification could then lead to progression to a senior care worker within your chosen setting.



What will I learn?

The course combines developing your practical and theoretical skills, together with experience gained in the workplace.


Diploma in Health and Social Care Level 2. Units include:

  • Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care

  • Communication

  • Health and Safety

  • Equality and Diversity

  • Additional Units Tailored to Vocational Requirements

  • Employment Rights and Responsibilities

  • Functional Skills at Level 1/2 in English and Maths (if applicable)


Which award will I achieve?


Diploma in Health and Social Care Level 2/3, Employment Rights and Responsibilities and Functional Skills at Level 1/2 in English and Maths.


How will I be assessed?


The above modules will be assessed practically and through written assessments. This is a practical course where learners will provide evidence through case studies, tasks, professional discussions and Q & A’s along with observations done with your assessor.



What are the entry requirements?

Candidates should have a strong interest in the area of health or social care. They will need to be dedicated and committed to their study and be responsible for their own learning. It will be necessary to attend an interview with the Apprenticeships team and be asked to complete basic skills assessments in English and Mathematics. GCSE grades A-C in Maths and English desirable but must be willing to achieve Level 1 or 2 in functional skills if they do not have the grades.



What next?

Possible progression to a level 3 qualification, advanced Apprenticeship or a specialist pathway. Career pathways may include progression within specialist roles such as care worker, support or outreach worker.



Attendance

All learning will take place in the work place with regular visits from your assessor. If you do not have Maths and English grades you would need to attend Functional Skills classes at times to be arranged.

  • Access to a wide range of experiences in a Health and Social Care setting

  • Skilled and knowledgeable staff in placement.

  • Modern equipment and current practices.

Considering an apprenticeship?
Many young people look to an apprenticeship to gain valuable skills directly in the workplace.
You can apply for both an apprenticeship, and a full-time course as your back up,
but note that you will need to do some research to find an employer willing to take you on as an apprentice
if you do not already have one.
