On the AS and A2 courses there are 6 units each, 4 of which are assessed as coursework and 2 by exam. In the AS year you will do 1 exam in January and the other in June.

What are the lessons like?
Students experience a range of teaching activities on the course, there is a lot of class discussion and small group work.
You will need to develop good independent study skills; individual research and portfolio work play a large part on the course.

Keep up to date with the homework and portfolio deadlines and complete them to the best of your ability.
Participate in all class activities, being prepared to put forward your own ideas and listen carefully to the views of others.

What do people do with Applied A level Health and Social Care?
A large number of students go on to training courses in nursing.
Other careers, which students have gone on to, include social work and working in care homes.
Every year there are students who go from this course into training to become teachers but you should seek further advice on subject combinations for this progression route.
