The course may enable progression onto degrees in Nursing, Midwifery or Occupational Therapy.




GCSE English grade C or above, a high standard of literacy will be required to successfully achieve the Diploma, so potential students will undertake a literacy assessment and written essay test to ascertain whether this course is appropriate for them. An interview will also take place. It is important to note that in order to progress to university, you will need to have achieved GCSE maths grade C or above by the end of the course if you do not have this already.

Course programme

In order to achieve the Access Diploma, students have to achieve 60 credits; 45 of which are at level 3.

There are some mandatory subject units which include:

  • Meeting the needs of different client groups;
  • Principles of care;
  • Health & Social Care values.
Course Assessment Method

Teachers will invite you to join in group discussions. Your class work will involve you learning by speaking to others, watching videos, reading books and researching on the computer. You will be expected to complete additional research and assignments in your own time.

Mandatory core skills units at Level 3:

  • Independent research;
  • Academic skills / Study skills / Literacy skills;
  • Examination skills.

Mandatory core skills units at Level 2:

  • Numeracy / Maths;
  • ICT.
