The aim of the course is to give all candidates a sound understanding of the requirements, responsibilities and duties under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and other workplace legislation.
Course Objectives
On completion of the course delegates will be able to:
- Understand the legal requirements of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
- Understand the duties placed upon employers, employees and contractors.
- Identify the hazards and attendant risks associated with the workplace.
- Understand the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999.
- Contribute to performing a risk assessment.
- Derive the control measures to combat the foreseeable risks.
- Understand the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992.
- Conduct workplace inspections and audits.
- Understand the emergency and arrangements that must be applied.
- Apply the Fire Safety Order to their individual workplace.
- Understand and apply the Noise at Work Regulations, Personal Protective Equipment Regulations, Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations and Manual Handling Operations Regulations.
- Understand the RIDDOR 1995 Regulations and the requirement to report/record accidents.
- Conduct accident investigations and developm the appropriate corrective actions.
- Understand the role of the enforcement authorities, eg the Health and Safety Executive and the Environment Agency.
