BTEC First Health & Social Care

WHY TAKE BTEC FIRST HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARE?
During this vocational course you will gain a broad knowledge and understanding of Health and Social Care services, and the factors which affect health and well-being. At the end of the course you can consider a very large range of employment opportunities in Health and Care settings, including Early Years Care, Social Care and Health, or progress onto an advanced level qualification.

WHAT ARE THE KEY AREAS OF STUDY?
The course provides a broad understanding of Health Care, Social Care and Early Years service providers. In addition you will study areas of Sociology and Psychology, apply your knowledge in realistic and practical ways including case studies, small research projects and conduct a health campaign.

WHAT SKILLS WILL I NEED AND DEVELOP?
You will need to be able to work to deadlines to complete the assignments set. As part of the course you will also have opportunities to improve your key skills of communication, application of number and IT. You will be taught in a number of different ways, which will include; Lectures, Group work, Presentations, Work experiences/visits and Portfolio work.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?
Six units will be collected in a portfolio and assessed internally. There are no examinations.

PRIESTLEY EXTRA
You will have a range of visits organised for you which relate to your studies. We visit many hospital and care providers to extend your learning. Each year we visit Ambleside in the Lake District where you are invited to take part in team building activities for the National Trust. We also encourage you to take part in the arranged First Aid and Sign Language programmes, viewing these as valuable additional skills that will support you into employment or further learning.
