Health & Social Care AS and A2



INTRODUCTION
For students with lively, enquiring minds, this course provides a wide range of experiences. This course lasts for two years and it will appeal to people wishing to add a new dimension to their studies and to those who wish to work in the health and social care sector.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?
During this course you will gain a broad understanding of health & social care develop skills, knowledge and understanding have an opportunity to apply learning in a practical and realistic way follow a programme of study which allows progression in to both employment and higher education develop key skills valued by universities and employers gain confidence by developing independent learning skills

CONTENT (YEAR ONE)
All students at Gateway are expected to develop key skills. In addition you will study the following units: Promoting quality care
Communicating in care settings
Promoting good health

Students must pass year one in order to progress to year two.

12. Anatomy & physiology in practice

ASSESSMENT
Units marked have an externally set assessment. This will normally be set in June to allow maximum time for preparation. The other units are assessed by production of coursework. You will need to be good at meeting deadlines to succeed in this course of study.

HOW WILL I STUDY?
You will be expected to learn in a wide variety of ways; through formal teaching, voluntary experience, visits, watching videos, role-play, group work etc. You may need to interview professionals, do research in the library or on the Internet. Sometimes you will have very practical activities to do. Always you will be expected to take responsibility for your own learning. You will have a borrowers card for the library to help with your research and a password for the college computer network and Internet. The course will comprise of 5 hours of formal teaching time and a minimum of 5 hours of self-study each week.

Your knowledge and under-standing of care organisations and processes equip you well for: nursing teaching (but you must be able to offer a national curriculum subject) social work courses at university, such as psychology, health studies, podiatry, complementary medicine a wide range of jobs in the health and care sector These occupations are equally suitable for males and females
