The Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care was originally developed by the Faculty of Health at University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) in response to the needs of health and social care providers in the voluntary, private and public sectors. It aims to enhance staff training and qualifications to meet service quality and performance agendas. It combines academic understanding and skills, with generic and specific work-related skills, and incorporates occupational standards for health and social care workers. It aims to equip you with the relevant knowledge and skills, as well as addressing your continuing professional development needs.

Admissions decisions will be based on the following standard criteria - students are expected to obtain a minimum of 180 UCAS points to include: GCSE’s (English and Maths C or above) And one of the following: GNVQ (intermediate and advanced) BTEC National Extended Diploma (3 passes) BTEC National Diploma (Pass, Pass, Pass) BTEC National Subsidiary national Diploma (Distinction) ‘A’ Level ( 100 points equivalent) Access Course (Pass) Irish leaving Certificate Scottish Highers OCR National Certificate (Distinction) OCR National Diploma (P2) OCR National Extended Diploma (P3) 14-19 Diplomas (E) Accreditation of prior learning (the course team are available to advise and assist with any APL application). All students will have to undertake an interview with members of the course team prior to being accepted onto the course. All applicants are invited to attend an interview with either the Course Leader or Course Tutor. You will be notified of your date for your interview by our Admissions Team who will also update UCAS Track with details of your application. Please note: To gain access to this course you will need to go through a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. If you have criminal convictions or cautions, please do not be put off from applying for the course. Your acceptance on to the course will depend on the nature of any convictions and will be at the discretion of the University Centre and your placement provider. Career Path You could gain employment in residential, domiciliary and day care, nursing and care homes, clinics and surgeries and in health education roles in schools and neighbourhoods.. What can I do if I complete this course? The course provides academic recognition and personal development for those already employed in the sector. You could continue to study to a higher level.. Duration Two years, full time / Three to five years, part time. Cost You don’t need cash to enrol on a course. Tuition fee loans cover university or college tuition fees and are paid direct to the university or college, by Student Finance England. They are available to all eligible students regardless of household income. The amount you pay back is dependent on how much you earn and not how much you owe and you won’t need to start paying them back until you are earning more than £21,000 per year. Student Loans will also help to support your living costs.
