Introduction

The award is a nationally recognised vocational qualification accredited by OCR which is one of the UK‘s leading awarding bodies.

The award has links to the NVQ Level 2 Health and Social Care award, but reflects a higher level of responsibility and specialisation. As such, it is a potential progression route from Level 2.

Mode of Delivery For International Students
The course is full time, 15 hours theory / 15 hour practical based activities, supported by qualified assessors with logged evidence of study/learning time. Candidates will be taught both theory and practice in an audited learning environment where they will be supported by professionally qualified tutors in order to achieve the competencies for the qualification. Attendances to classroom training sessions are mandatory.

Course content
The course contains four mandatory units and four optional units.

Mandatory units
Promote effective communications for and about individuals
Promote, monitor and maintain health, safety and security in the working environment
Reflect and develop your practice
Promote choice, well being and the protection of individuals

Optional units
There are a range of optional units available depending upon work role and work setting.

Course delivery and assessment
Learners work with as assessor and individually, completing activities and assessments for each unit. Your assessor will observe you carrying out practical tasks during your normal working hours in order that you can meet the requirements of The National Occupational Standards.

Progression opportunities
On completion of this programme you may be able to progress on to NVQ Health and Social Care Level 4, if your work role is suitable.

Home Office Guidelines – for International Students
Under Home Office regulations, the course is defined as ‘Sandwich Course’ which means that, with our approval, and as part of continuous learning and development, candidates will be placed in a specified work placement additional hours per week.
