Is this course for me?
This course gives you a general understanding of the knowledge
and skills required for nursing and health related occupations.
Subjects studied include science, professional studies, literacy
and numeracy.
What will I study?
This course offers a broad introduction to nursing in the health
and social care sector and gives students the opportunity to
develop personal and basic skills including communications,
application of number and IT.

• Communications and individual rights
• Individual needs within care settings
• Anatomy and physiology
• Cultural diversity in health and care
• Health and social care services
• Human lifespan development
• Impact of diet on health

What can I do next?
This can lead to progression to either Access to Nursing, BTEC
National Diploma in Health and Social Care, or NVQs with
appropriate employment.
This can lead to employment in:

• Support work
• Care or health assistance

What are the entry requirements?
You will need to have ideally completed a BTEC Introductory
Diploma Certificate with a pass at merit level or above. Students
without any formal qualifications are also welcome to apply. All
applicants are invited to complete an assessment test and
interview.
How will I be assessed?
Assessment takes the form of assignments. Students also meet
regularly with their course tutor to discuss progress.
What will it cost?
If you are under 19 and a home student, in most circumstances,
you don't pay any fees. However, you will need to find this out
when you apply.
