Aim A 2 year challenging practical work-related course giving you a broad understanding of health, education and social issues and helping you develop key skills that are highly valued by employers.
Content You will study 18 units which include:
· Developing effective communication in health and social care
· Equality, diversity and rights
· Development through the life stages
· Fundamentals of anatomy and physiology
· Sociological perspectives
· Psychological perspectives
· Caring for children and young people
· Supporting and protecting adults.
You will also be required to undertake a minimum of 100 hours in practical work training placements. This is covered by block placement weeks spread throughout the college year.
All units are assessed and graded and an overall grade for the qualification is awarded.
Progression/career opportunities
This qualification is equivalent to 3 A levels which means that if you want to get a job straight away you could work and train in hospitals, nursing homes or health centres. It is also highly regarded by universities so you could take a degree of higher study in social policy, health studies, nursing, managing health and care services.
Extra information All students will be required to successfully complete a CRB disclosure form. In order to attend work placements a clear CRB is required. The cost of this will be met by the student and is currently £37.
Screening
Students will also be screened (in the College) and must achieve literacy and numeracy at the level appropriate to the course.
