2. Course description If you are interested in a career in Nursing, Social Work, Care or other health related professions this vocational qualification is an excellent choice. This is the first of two 1 year, level 3 courses suitable for those who want to go on to urther study at degree level; for example a degree in Nursing or Social Work. Work experience is included as part of the course for one day a week. There will be a variety of placements to give you a range of valuable practical experiences and a real insight into working in Health and Social Care. - Option to Progress after two terms to the Extended Diploma Health & Social Care (Health Studies) This is an ideal choice if you want to work in the health and care sector and prefer a vocational alternative to A Levels. There is a high level of practical work, including a variety of work placements. The academic standard also satisfies the entry requirements of nursing and professions allied to medicine (such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy), as well as universities and colleges. You will study the following core units: Development through the life stages, Anatomy and physiology, Personal and professional development, Sociological perspectives, Psychological perspectives, Caring for children and young people, Safeguarding adults and promoting independence, Public health, Physiology of fluid balance and Physiological disorders. Along with other units an emphasis is placed on developing your personal skills. The course also has a bridging studies element to reinforce the Maths and Science relevant to your chosen profession.
