Entry Requirements

There are two entry points, October and February. The closing date for application is normally four weeks prior to registration.

An undergraduate degree preferably in a relevant subject to the route being studied or a professional qualification, for example teaching, nursing, environmental health, social work, with a minimum of two years work experience.

Exemptions may apply through APL/APEL.

Course programme

A multi-disciplinary postgraduate programme that aims to meet the needs of professionals working or considering work in health and allied fields.

The programme comprises an MSc Health Studies, and specialised routes in Healthcare Management and Public Health for Practitioners.

Course Structure and Content

Students gain credits for each module and these are accumulated for a range of awards.

Students can take breaks and return to study in a pattern that suits them best. The programme comprises a total of seven taught modules, each worth 30 credits and a dissertation module, worth 60 credits. Students select two modules for the PGCert, four modules for the PGDip and four modules plus a dissertation for the award of MSc. Typically students choose modules that complement their professional interests.

Teaching Methods and Resources

Each module has a designated co-ordinator. Teaching methods include lectures, small and large group work, seminars, one to one tutorials, and workshops. There are guest speakers and presenters throughout the course.

Assessment Methods

Each module is assessed by coursework. The content of a module determines the nature of the coursework; however, typically it will comprise an essay, report, project or/and presentation. Each module will require a maximum of 5,000 written words and a 2,000 word equivalent portfolio demonstrating personal development. The word limit for the Master's dissertation is 20,000 words.

Course Length

MSc full-time three trimesters (one calendar year).

MSc part-time up to five years.
