Health Studies With A Foundation Year BSc (Hons)

The foundation year has been developed as part of the BSc (Hons) Health Studies award and reflects the desire to provide a multidisciplinary approach to the study of health issues which is nonclinical and primarily based on a social science perspective with opportunities to develop foundation knowledge of health sciences. It is informed by contemporary government policies, for instance Choosing Health (2004) and the Darzi Report (2008) that present challenges for those who design and provide health services. Health is now viewed in its broad terms, not as the provision of health services but as the need to integrate health and wellbeing behaviours into the population at all ages and in all circumstances with the clear objective of independence and choice for individuals. The foundation year of the BSc (Hons) Health Studies award has been designed to stimulate your interest in health and social care and aspects of related policies, while at the same time preparing you academically and personally for subsequent study as an undergraduate student.
