2. Course description In order to succeed in your Higher Apprenticeship you will need to complete the following elements: Competence Element: Level 4 Diploma in Professional Competence for IT & Telecoms Professionals. Knowledge Element: HNC in Computing & Systems Development. Functional Skills: Maths Level 2 or Key Skills Application of Number Level 2. Functional Skills: English Level 2 or Key Skills Communications Level 2. Employment Rights and Responsibilities. Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS). Within the Level 4 Diploma there are two mandatory units: Personal Effectiveness Level 4 and Health and Safety Level 1.

3. Entry requirements You will have successfully passed a relevant programme at FE Level 3 (BTEC, Access to HE, A Levels) with a pass/merit profile, or you will have successfully completed an Advanced Apprenticeship in IT. You will also have the appropriate technical ability in writing, speaking and reading English. The typical offer for A Level applicants is 80-120 UCAS tariff points. The College is prepared to interview mature students without these qualifications who may benefit from an HE programme of study. As a Higher Apprentice you will be in full-time employment with an appropriate wage, in an IT related role such as Help Desk Operator; IT Trainer; Software Developer; Technical Author; System Support Technician/Engineer; Web Designer. 4. Equipment required You will be assigned to a tutor and expected to attend College one day per week to complete the HNC and to pick up and complete any practical work you are unable to cover in your workplace. The timescale for the Higher Apprenticeship Framework is normally 18 months. 5. Assessment method Most of your training will be in your workplace. You will receive regular visits from your Assessor/Training Co-ordinator who will help you with all aspects of your Apprenticeship.
