Course programme

Applicants should normally be at least 18 years of age. Applications are welcomed from candidates with a subject-specific Level 3 course such as a National Subsidiary/Diploma/Extended Diploma, A Level, Access to Higher Education Course, or a work-based course, such as NVQ 3 or Advanced Apprenticeship with a minimum 120 UCAS points achieved. Mature students may present a more varied profile of achievement that is likely to include extensive work experience (paid and/or unpaid) and/or achievement of a range of professional qualifications in their work sector. Course Content The Pearson BTEC Level 4 HNC in Performing Arts (QCF) is a qualification with a minimum of 120 credits of which 35 are mandatory core. The BTEC Level 4 HNC programme must contain a minimum of 65 credits at level 4. The Pearson BTEC Level 5 HND in Performing Arts (QCF) is a qualification with a minimum of 240 credits of which 55 are mandatory core. The BTEC Level 5 HND programme must contain a minimum of 125 credits at level 5 or above. Year 1 - Mandatory Core Units: Creative Arts Professional Practice, Creative Arts Research Skills Optional Units: Contemporary Dance Techniques and Performance, Dance for Musical Theatre, Development of Acting Skills, Devising Performance, Naturalistic Acting, Physical Theatre Performance, Production Skills for Performance Upon successful completion of year 1 full-time students can be awarded a stand-alone HNC. Year 2 - Mandatory Core Units Preparation, Process and Production in the Creative Arts Optional Units: Alternative Approaches to Acting, Musical Theatre Performance, Performing Arts Workshop Leadership, Project Design, Implementation and Evaluation, Research Project How will I be assessed? The course is predominantly assessed through the completion of assignment projects. Much of the study will require work outside of formal classes, so self-motivation and good time management skills are essential. As a guideline you are advised that a 15-credit unit approximates to a learning time of 150 hours Progression A key progression path for BTEC HNC and HND learners is to the second or third year of a degree or honours degree programme, depending on the match of the BTEC Higher National units to the degree programme in question. Depending on the entry requirements of individual universities successful completion of the course will enable you to apply to top up to a range of degree level courses in related subject areas Fees The course fees for all students for this course will be £5250 per annum for 2016/17. Additional Course Costs Additional costs include £5 refundable HE Centre pass, a £24 College parking permit if applicable. Students on this course will also be required to purchase a range of Bay Theatre uniform items: T Shirt £8.50 (Mandatory), Polo Shirt £11.50, Hoodie £15 (all prices stated do not include VAT). In addition to this there will be a charge of £60 per academic year towards the cost of a season ticket for various professional theatre performances. *Note – All costs may be subject to change and may vary dependent on place of purchase.
