Sports Leaders must be 18 years or older on completion of the award and it is essential to have obtained the Sports Leaders UK Level 1 Award in Community Sports Leadership prior to starting this award. Spaces are limited and candidates will be selected based on attitude and performance observed on the Community Leaders Award.

About the subject

The Sports Leaders UK Level 3 Award in Higher Sports builds upon the leadership skills and experience gained through the Level 1 Award in Community Sports Leadership.
This course gives students the opportunity to learn new skills, to work with specialist community groups, and is of value to all those who wish to further develop their coaching skills.
The course is taught over 3 lessons per week and is one year long.
This course forms part of the portfolio of qualifications being offered within our Centre of Vocational Excellence in Sport and Recreation.

Learning Styles

Throughout the course, learning takes place through practical experience as well as some (rather than through) written work.

Subject combinations and progression

A level Physical Education, A level Leisure Studies, YMCA Fitness Instructor.
As a nationally recognised qualification it is an excellent stepping stone to Higher/Further education or voluntary or paid work in the sports development, leisure management and sports coaching sectors.

Course content
Unit 01 - Introduction to Higher Sports Leadership
Unit 02 - Sports leadership in the community
Unit 03 - Principles and practice for children in sport
Unit 05 - Principles and practice for people with a disability in sport
Unit 06 - Understanding fitness and health in sport
Unit 07 - Dealing with first aid and emergency situations in sport
Unit 08 - Demonstration of higher sports leadership skills
Unit 09 - Organising and running a sports event
Assessment is through portfolio work, practical demonstration, community work and the running of a major sports event
