Teaching styles
Varied, but primarily student centred. At A level the emphasis is placed on developing student independence to assist in the transition to higher education.

Assessment
A level History is a two year course, with two 2.5 hour exams at the end of the second year.
Each exam will be worth 40% of the A-level , with the coursework making up the remaining 20%.

Historical Investigation (coursework)
A personal study based on a topic of student's choice.
This should take the form of a question in the context of approximately 100 years.
It must not duplicate the content of the topics above.

Useful subjects to combine with History are: English, Law, Sociology, Philosophy, Government & Politics, Media Studies, Film Studies and Art.

Resources and facilities
The course is well resourced with a departmental library as well as a good range of books and DVDs being available from the LRC.

England: turmoil and triumph, 1547–1603

· Instability and consolidation: 'the Mid-Tudor Crisis', 1547–1563

· The Nazi Dictatorship, 1933–1939

· The Racial State, 1933–1941
