HISTORY

Who is this course for?

You are required to have attained at least a Grade C in GCSE History.

How long is this course for?

'AS' Level - 1 year, 5 hours per week
'A' Level - 2 years, 5 hours per week

What will I study?
'AS' Level consists of two modules:
  • Module AS1 - Germany 1919-1945 (50% of 'AS' Level)
  • Module AS 2- Russia 1903-1941 (50% of 'AS' Level)

'A' Level requires two further modules studied to a higher level in the second year:
  • Module A21 - The Clash of Ideologies in Europe 1900- 2000 (50% of 'A' Level)
  • Module A22 - The Partition of Ireland 1900-25 (50% of' 'A' Level)

How will I be assessed?
AS1 is an exam lasting 1hour 30mins in which students have to do a short descriptive answer, a source evaluation answer and an analytical essay involving historical interpretations.

AS2 is an exam lasting 1hour 30mins and consists of four questions in two parts from which the students select two. The first part of each question is a short factual question; the second part is an analytical essay.

A21 is an exam of 1hour 15mins in which students have to write one essay from a choice of two.

A22 is an exam of 1hour 45mins in which students have to do a compulsory source exercise consisting of 3 documents with two questions and a substantial essay from a choice of two.
