This modular degree scheme is designed to allow students to further their undergraduate interest in history, and to develop the skills and knowledge needed to undertake further research into the past. It combines training in research techniques and theoretical and historiographic analysis, with a wide range of taught courses, skills modules and a substantial dissertation. There is a choice of specialist modules covering a range of periods from medieval to contemporary history, matching the research interests of the teaching staff.

About this course


The course aims to enable understudies to: A broad knowledge of interpretations and key debates relevant to the study of History, and an ability to place these in their historiographical context.

A close familiarity with the theoretical frameworks that are particularly relevant to the student¿s chosen course of study and research interests.

Recognize that representations of the past can be produced using a range of different methodologies, philosophical and theoretical approaches.

Present a clearly structured argument in the form of a 4500 word essay, on an aspect of the approach and interpretation of history that critically engages with current debates.



A 2(ii) Honours degree is required, or equivalent qualifications.

IELTS: overall score of 6.0 (with no element below 5.5) is required.
