HISTORY (Medieval)

Why should I come to Pendleton College?
More and more students are opting to take History at Pendleton College each year. The History department boasts excellent creative resources for teaching and research, as well as qualified and committed staff. The course will equip you with vital analytical skills that can be used in any subject or occupation.

What will I study?
The course consists of four modules, two of which will be studied in year one (AS) and a further two in year two (A2).
  • The First Crusade, its origins and the Crusader States 1073-1130
  • From Anglo-Saxon to Norman England 1035-1087
  • The Transformation of England 1066-1216
  • Historical Interpretations and Investigations (coursework)
You cannot study Twentieth Century History with this course.

What will I achieve?
History A-Level gives students potential progression to a wide range of degree courses and opens up careers opportunities in fields such as Law, Journalism, Media, Politics, Civil Service and Teaching.

How is the course assessed?
This is a modular course assessed through five examinations and one piece of coursework.

What else will I do?
Students will take part in a wide range of trips, lectures and discussion groups including AS visits to battlefields and York. The A2 classes have the opportunity to visit Rome.
