History of Art - Ancient Art
This course will look at the history of art and architecture from prehistoric times to the medieval age with a particular focus on Britain and Europe. It will also explore the great cultural discoveries of the past, including Egypt, Troy and Pompeii.
What does the course involve?
Participants will be undertake some relevant reading, take part in class discussion and study images of significant art and architecture.
What will I study?
Term 1 Looking at significant examples of art and architecture from the prehistoric and dark ages, with a particular focus on Britain. The context of the art is also explored.
Term 2 Focusing on the great discoveries of the 18th and 19th centuries such as Troy, Mycenae and Pompeii and examining the impact of these discoveries on art. We will also look at the impact of the 'grand tour'.
