About this Course

This programme is a new QCF approved Level 4 HNC Diploma/Level 5 HND Diploma with Pearson BTEC as the awarding body.



The HNC lasts for one year and the HND lasts for two years. If you choose to take the HNC route you can top this up to the HND, by staying on at the College to complete the second year of the HND.

Course Summary
The course provides advanced technical knowledge through general engineering principles, concepts and theory that includes both mechanical and electrical principles.

The course also provides the higher level technical vocational general engineering skills to equip you for a range of related occupations. The HNC course is offered on a full-time basis for one year and can be topped up to a HND qualification with an extra year of full-time study.

Studying the HND in General Engineering course at either college means that you are able to study a nationally recognised Higher Education qualification locally and without attending university.

Entry requirements
For the HNC, a full Level 3 qualification to include a minimum of BTEC Subsidiary Diploma in Engineering or a related subject.

For the HND, a full Level 4 qualification in a related subject.

You must also have Level 3 maths and electrical principles or a minimum of two A-Level equivalents in relevant subject (maths, electronics, and physics). Those with significant work experience in the industry may also be considered following interview to assess suitability for the course.
