Course programme

Overview

The BTEC Level 5 HNC provides greater breadth and specialisation than the BTEC Level 4 HNC Diploma, allowing progression into or within employment in the travel and tourism sector, either directly on achievement of the award or following further study to degree level.  Knowledge and practical skills can be applied in the workplace.  Full-time learners have the opportunity to do this through formal work placements or part-time employment experience.

The qualification offers a wide range of sector knowledge tied to practical skills gained in research, self-study, directed study and workplace scenarios.  You will develop a broad knowledge and awareness of key aspects of the business sector through six core units, which include one unit assessed by a Pearson-set assignment. The units are:

  • Travel & Tourism Sector
  • Visitor Attraction Management
  • Resort Management
  • Personal & Professional Development
  • Tourist Destinations
  • Finance & Funding in the Travel & Tourism Sector
  • Marketing in the Travel & Tourism Sector
  • Heritage & Cultural Tourism

The BTEC Higher Nationals in Travel and Tourism Management have been created to :

  • provide opportunities for employees of travel and tourism facilities to achieve nationally recognised Levels 4 and 5 vocationally specific qualifications
  • provide opportunities for learners to gain a nationally recognised vocationally specific qualification to enter employment in travel and tourism or to progress to higher education vocational qualifications such as a degree in a related area.
