Course programme

Overview

The course is designed to cover practical, theoretical and ethical aspects of animal management, providing the skills needed for a successful career or further study with a linked BSc Top-Up Degree in Animal Management.

Practical skills will be developed at the award-winning Taylor Hill Centre, which houses over 80 species, including a number of exotic species.

Field trips and the option of overseas visits, for example African safari, will further improve skills development.

Subjects over the two years include:

  • Animal collections, focusing on zoological collections
  • Managing the training of animals
  • Animal behaviour
  • Natural history of exotic mammals
  • Principles of animal health
  • Animal adaptations
  • Plan and manage the health and welfare of animals

Related work experience will be encouraged with linked animal sector organisations.

Work experience is arranged as part of the course with SMJ Falconry in Oxenhope, West Yorkshire.
