About this course
Two Higher Grade passes at grade C or above including Art and two other passes at Standard Grade (or equivalent) at band 3 or above; or completion of the National Qualification Art & Design course (or equivalent) and a portfolio of recent work.

KEY FEATURES
The aim of this course is to enable prospective learners to encounter a wide range of conventional art and design activities and translate and develop these within the context of emerging computer arts and design disciplines. The course will provide a foundation in art and design and will encourage candidates to develop project based work within developing technological areas such as new media, animation, digital video and the Internet. It aims to provide learners with a range of skills necessary for progression into employment and Higher Education courses in art and design. This is a new course of study and has been devised as a National Framework replacing existing Digital Art and Design courses.
COURSE CONTENT
A selection of core units includes:
Development Drawing 1; Digital Imaging; Art and Design Context; Intro to the Creative Industries,; Graded Unit1; Professional Studies; Graded Unit 2; Creative Project; Visual Philosophy.
Key Skill Units:
Theory and Practice in Computer Arts & Design
A selection of optional units includes:
Computer Animation; Web Design; Life Drawing Observational Drawing; Digital Video; Sound Production; Digital Editing and Film Theory.

PROGRESSION
Successful completion leads to degree level Art and Design courses. Articulation arrangements have been formalised with Glasgow Caledonian University for direct entry to their 3rd year BSc Applied Graphics Technology & Multimedia courses and also with the University of the West of Scotland for 3rd year entry to BA, Digital Art and Digital Art and Animation. Learners have also progressed onto the following Art Schools; Edinburgh School of Art, Duncan of Jordanstone, Dundee, Glasgow School of Art. We are also currently in discussion about formal articulation in to 3rd year of the Sculpture department at the Glasgow School of Art.
