About this course
The minimum admission requirement for an undergraduate degree course in Art, Design and Crafts is 160 UCAS points from qualifications including A-Levels, Foundation, National Diploma, GNVQ, Access, Scottish Cert of Ed, Irish Leaving Cert, International or European Baccalaureate. Mature applicants with relevant prior experience are welcome and are considered on an individual basis. Course Content
Fine Art Painting is a practical course offering students a diverse and thorough experience of the painting process. Critical theory lectures and seminars underpin and inform practical work. The course also includes enterprise and professional practice modules to help students achieve their career ambitions. A skills based first year provides an effective starting point from which to establish your own personal visual language. During years two and three you will develop a more independent approach to learning, pursuing your own interests and concerns through negotiated projects and strong tutorial support. You are encouraged to develop your own vision and produce a resolved body of work leading to a final year exhibition at the end of the course.

Career Prospects and Progression
Through our enterprise programme students are made aware of opportunities available for painting graduates and will leave the course with an awareness of how to achieve career ambitions. Skills and knowledge gained during the course prepare students to work as a professional practising artist or to go on to postgraduate study. The broad skills based programme offered is also ideal for those wishing to pursue a career in teaching. Graduates are made fully aware of the transferability of their skills and may work in a variety of related areas: arts administration, curatorial or gallery posts, journalism, self-employment, art assistant, art technician, public art and scenic art amongst others.
Method of Assessment
Coursework is assessed by individual modules, with credits accumulated annually.
Course Length
3 years full-time, or maximum of 60 credits per academic year for part-time study.
