This course is aimed at people that want to become professional graphic designers You will develop the necessary underpinning skills and understanding required to become a graphic designer You will explore the role of typography, branding, illustration, information graphics and packaging within contemporary design practice The course will focus on developing your creative practice, working with employers to develop employability skills As you progress through the course, you will be encouraged to choose the direction of your project, so you can explore and develop your own visual language This will be supported by individual and group tutorials

How will I be assessed?

All modules have a theoretical content and this is assessed through ability to research, seminars and essay writing When organising exhibitions, projects and work placements, students will be assessed on their production of reports and/or evaluative logs that record the experience

What may it lead to?

Employment as a professional practising graphic designer, working in a range of sectors and industries, such as design, media and teaching The majority of people working in the graphic design fields are self-employed and this programme aims to prepare students for the business environment Students could also progress to a top-up degree to obtain a Bachelor's qualification such as, subject to entry criteria the BA(Hons) in Visual Arts at Canterbury College

Entry Requirements

Applicants must have at least one of the following: Merit/Merit/Pass profile at BTEC or equivalent in graphic design or other relevant subject or an A Level or equivalent at C or above Alternatively, an Access course in an appropriate subject

Work Experience

Students will be encouraged to arrange a work placement in year two There may be costs to cover additional materials, gallery/industry visits and exhibiting

Delivery is through lectures, seminars and tutorials, normally over three days a week
