Course programme

HND Interactive Media Overview

Training will be given in Photoshop, InDesign, Dreamweaver, Flash, Lightwave 3D, Final Cut Pro, After Effects, PHP, HTML and Actionscript amongst many others.

The programme provides up-to-date knowledge that is relevant to working practices in the industry today.

This is a modular course with assessment through practical projects, giving you a valuable experience of working to professional design briefs. Many opportunities are given to liaise with professional clients and design bodies.

You may also have the opportunity to go on local, national or foreign trips to broaden your creative horizons and opportunities, experiencing interactive media at work in a variety of contexts.

This course is validated by Edexcel.

Entry requirements

All applicants will be invited to an interview to discuss qualifications, experience and any other related issues.

To start this course, you will need to have successfully completed a minimum of one of the following:

  • At least 160 UCAS points at A Level in appropriate subjects.
  • Appropriate BTEC National Extended Diploma with MMM profile or above.
  • Alternatively, we will consider substantive experience in a relevant field.

We normally require three GCSEs at grade C or above, including English language. English at Level 2 is an essential requirements and maths at Level 2 is desirable.

Please note that maths at Level 2 is required for progression onto the BA (Hons) Applied Studies (Creative Digital Media) (top-up) award or other programme beyond a HND course.

Provisional timetables will be discussed at interview, and confirmed in the final joining instructions which all students will receive in July.

This is a two year full-time course. Participation in some evening events also forms a necessary part of the HND. You will also need to dedicate a substantial amount of time to research and study outside of the classroom.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment methods are varied and include written reports, presentations, critiques, portfolios, practical projects and professional design briefs.

What does the course lead to?

Completion of this course will enable you to progress into a range of careers and employment opportunities, including website design, animation, film, digital sound, interface design, game design, video editing, photography, graphic design or illustration.

What can I go on to study?
  • Upon successful completion you may wish to progress to the BA (Hons) Applied Studies (Creative Digital Media) (top-up) available at the college, or another appropriate top-up award at another institution. All further study options will be subject to entry requirements.
  • Alternatively, you may wish to seek employment in a range of film careers opportunities such as website design, animation, film, digital sound, game design, interface design, video editing, photography, graphic design or illustration. This list is not exhaustive.
