This title demonstrates how to safety assist service users to move with and without equipment and develops carers’ understanding of how to reduce the risk of back injuries, along with their rights and responsibilities under health and safety law. It also explains the dangers of manual handling of service users and explains why carers cannot safely lift or support the weight of residents. The role of the Manual Handling Operations Regulations in enforcing safe practices is also explained. The video shows how people can be handled safely and the use of a range of equipment for this purpose is demonstrated. All the most common situations for handling residents in the domiciliary setting are covered.
