Careers/Further StudyHorizon HE is designed to
introduce students to some of the general academic skills and issues
associated with completing a Higher Education course.
Students may
include those who have achieved the entry requirements for HE, for example
the requisite A Levels, but would like some more general confidence
building prior to degree level study.
Entry RequirementsIf
you have applied for or are thinking of applying for a Higher Education
course e.g. HNC, HND or Degree then you may wish to consider this course
to provide you with the skills required to help you succeed at Higher
Education.
You will also require at least level 2 word processing
skills or have working knowledge of micro-soft packages.
Course
ContentThe course is designed to prepare students for higher
academic study and consists of three units:

Personal Development: personal planning, organisation and presentation
skills

Communication and Study Skills: academic writing and research skills
e.g. notetaking, essay writing, referencing etc

Extended IT skills (word processing): Advanced word processing skills
that you will find useful while completing assignments e.g formatting
of reports and presentations, footnotes, layout facilities etc
