This course gives a practical and theoretical and theoretical introduction to a particular subject area. Students need to have a genuine interest in the subject, with some practical knowledge of horse care being preferable.
What will I study?
This highly practical course is an excellent first step into the equine world. A love for horses is transformed into a meaningful qualification. It covers the basics of horse care including essential everyday stable duties and grooming. Playing an important role in looking after horses at the college equine centre, students will also learn safe techniques for leading, turning out and catching horses. Modules covered:
- Horse Husbandry
- Starting work in the land-based industries
- Skills development in the land-based industries
- Personal effectiveness
What will I achieve?
You will gain a BTEC Introductory Certificate in Land and Environment plus riding and work experience relevant to the industry. After successful completion of the course you will be able to progress on to the BTEC First Diploma in Horse Care.
How is the course assessed?
The course is assessed by practical assessments and written assignments.
