Course Overview
This programme is designed to meet the needs of students who wish to gain practical work experience while working towards a recognised qualification.

Course Structure
The programme is delivered over one year with attendance at college and local stables. Students must complete a series of units in order to achieve the qualification. Each unit has a credit value and the amount of credits achieved determines the qualification as an award, certificate or diploma.
Students will also be expected to undertake additional qualifications in literacy, numeracy, ICT, First Aid and Personal Development

Qualification Aims
City & Guilds/ NPTC Level 1 Certificate in Land Based Studies (Horse Care)

Assessments/Examinations
Students will be observed on practical work undertaken while on placements to ensure that they are competent within the workplace. A portfolio must be compiled for practical work and students are expected to gain evidence from a variety of sources. Other qualifications are achieved by portfolio completion and or formal examinations.

Cost / Equipment
Tuition is free to under 18 yeats of age but there are additional costs:
  • £25 material
  • £50 voluntary contribution towards travel costs
  • £102.50 registration & certification (free for student under 19 years of age)
Students will need to have an up to date Tetanus inoculation for health and safety requirements and will need to purchase steel toe cap Wellington boots, wet weather gear and apprpriate resources for theory sessions including pen, paper and folders etc.
